Why does my guitar amp start making a crunchy/static sound when I play it?

I have a Peavey Rage 158 transtube series and I play it with a Boss DS-1 pedal. Everytime I play a note you hear a crunchy and static sound mixed. It's not distortion because it didn't sound like that before. Also it overheats very quickly. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

Tube amp head alternative for guitar?

I have a peavey vypyr modeling amp and i want to get that rich sound of a tube amp with out paying a lot. Is there like a pedal with a tube in it that makes that nice sounding distortion. I would like to get away with some money still in my pockets (I'm 15) so i don't want to pay more than 100 dollars for something decent that will get me close to that sound. Any suggestions?

Try the easy stuff first i.e. try the amp with another guitar and lead. If the cracking persists it's more likely to be one of the pre-amp tubes. Make sure no household appliances are being used when you are using your amp as it can pick up and amplify rubbish from washing machines and vacuum cleaners etc.

RAT2 Distortion Pedal turning amp volume down?

I have owned this pedal for 6 months now, and has been working fine, until yesterday. It seems to decrease my amp volume now, even though before, it would increase the volume. I own a Peavey Vyprr Series amp 75 watt, and have another pedal, the MXR Carbon Copy Digital Delay. I dont think the delay pedal is causing problems because when i got it mmy rat was still working correctly. HELP?

I broke my thumb about a year ago. It is still bothering me and hurting. I can bend it a lot more but since I am doing my GCSE's this year I have to do a lot of writing. Look in the back of the amp - maybe the wire popped off the speaker terminals? Other wise the amp may need repair.

ok I had a boat that i bought in back in november on 2010 the engine needed to be rebuilt so i took it to a little hole in the wall boat repair shop he said that he could rebuid it for $1300 i said ok thn so i couldnt pay him all up front so he let me do payments i did it paid it off within about 3 weeks and he still didnt finish it whcih understandable. so i give about a month and he still hasnt finished it so every week i stop in and see how he is doing and he gives me an attitude saying oh well i havent gotten to it yet this goes on for about 4 months. Finally i have someone else call him and ask and he seemed all nice to them saying oh well i need to get a special part this mind you is 4 mothns later.a week later i have thaat person call again and he says oh i have the part but its just really busy right nw cuz its spring and i usually dnt do rebuilds in the spring. So basically he keeps giving me the line about how he cant do it. Now being seven mothns in still no progress. No idea what to do about talking does not do any good. and to add to it have to proof that he is working on my boat other than the title i dont have reciets or anything. So any suggestions on what is do be done.

Amp makes hissing sound! is it supposed to do that? ?

I have a new Peavey 6535 (new version of 6505) when I play with gain/distortion it make a hissing sound! At first I thought it was my cabinet but when I play with no gain it doesn't hiss! I'm not quite sure what you're talking about, and it sounds like you're using multiple OS's. From what I can pick out, it seems like your boot loader isn't working quite right, or something like that? I'm thinking something is wrong with your boot loader, as if it's corrupt or something. I would take it into your manufacturer and ask them about it, as you seem to be in a mess of some sort with your laptop.

Sounds like you should stick with the Strat. I personally prefer them too. Les Pauls are heavy and bulky, the necks are too wide and flat too. I say, get a strat :) If you want to do metal one day, just buy a distortion pedal

I have been playing guitar for 15 years and consider myself an intermediate player?

The problem is that my first teach many years ago never stressed the importance of placing the thumb behind the neck and using it as a clamp , so acoustically I have never done it , never had any problems picking up chords , or chord patters or fingerpicking and I basically just palm the neck of the guitat , In the past five years I have invested more money in a few electris and a few fender amps and find on the electric I am also"palming" the guitar rather than clamping my thumb behind the neck and using my fingers and thumb as a clamp........AM I wrong or is there anything wrong woith just holding the guitar in as a comfortable position as you like , I have been playing the acoustic like this for years and get compliments on my playing and have thus far have had no prblems in playing the electrics the same way ,,,,,,,,,Opinions please , how do YOU hold the guitar in your left hand if you are right handed?

It might be your house current. Have an electrician check it out ASAP. Electric guitar ground wires are usually attached to the strings, I don't know why and I build guitars but don't wire them that way. Do not hesitate to have a professional inspect your house wiring, you can be killed easily if something is amiss in the house current!

Peavey Vyper 75 watt amp making a wah noise when playing chords?

I know there is a "wah" setting on the amp, but its not on. I'm sure of it. i have it on K-stein with stompbox and effects both on bypass. Every time i go to play a power chord and hold out the chords, the sound begins to go up and down kind of like the wah effect. this only happens when i play power chords. just playing a single note and holding it, it sounds fine. or if i have it on a clean setting it sounds fine as well. I'm not sure if its the amp or my guitar. i have a ibanez rg5ex1. i was told the pickups on this model weren't very good.. Any suggestions on what the problem may be? its really getting annoying

Well, it at least has two pickups on it so, it will be find for you to learn with. The amplifier is not good for much of anything except practicing in your room. As soon as you can afford it, you should try to get a BOSS ME-20B or ME-50B bass effects processor. That will provide you all of the bass effects you might need so you can learn what they sound like and how to use them. Then, when you are ready to play with a band, get you r self a good 150 to 300 watt bass amplifier like the Behringer Ultrabass. With a 150 watt bass amp and a BOSS bass effects processor, that bass should sound pretty decent so, unless it has really poor hardware and electronics, it will even last you a while before you need to trade up. Your sound comes primarily from the effects processor and not the bass itself.

Is my live sound setup good?

You should be able to make plenty of sound with that rig. It should do nicely for vocals and keyboard. Just don't try to run the bass and drums through it or will need an external amp and some bass bins. If you use both speakers at the same time you'll have plenty of headroom as far as wattage is concerned, of course you can damage any speaker if you turn it up too loud, overdrive the amp and cause it to clip. This is the only thing I would be concerned about. This will blow the horn drivers so just let your ears be the judge and if you hear distortion, turn it down.

My thumbs get swollen every time i touch something cold... is this normal?

when i hold something cold all my fingers swell up and become very fat. It does feel great because i cant really move them and they are rock solid. The swelling stays for about 20-30 minutes. I have gotten told that maybe i have a circulation problem in my hands but that was by a family member. Serious hair damage problem......is oil usage necessary?need hlp!!!?

i used to apply hair oil on daily basis(i.e. no washing hair after oil massage) when i was a kid. but now i don't really lyk having oily hair always.....i hv long and silky hair bt nw i've stopped using oil daily and i just use it on weekends and then wash them.Bt because of dat i'm having serious HAIR FALL(never had such before),,,SPLIT ENDS,plus a bit dandruff!!!!and there is not the same shine in my hair as it used to be.they've becum rough! Why is my amp making so much noise?

i have had my amp for basically a year now. it is a peavey VK212. and recently (past 2 months) it has been making alot of noise where it did not before. it sounds like there is a really strong wind blowing in my amp and a lot of crackling. none of this was there when i bought it. i am aware that alot of amps do make some background noise. and i can still hear that, but these noises are new. what is wrong with my amp and how do i stop them?

Why are there no tomatoes?

OK... I have a beautiful garden going. 8 tomato plants.... bunch of peppers, eggplant, green beans, cucumbers, squash. All doing great... except my tomato plants. They are like 5 feet high, beautiful and green. Even flowering, but no tomatoes.... not a one. Why is that? I live in NW Florida. I water every day at 0500 for 15 minutes. I use miracle grow. Skype USB Video Device problem! PLEASE HHEEELP!?

Recently I reinstalled windows on my laptop and now I'm not able to see myself when logging into a skype. I have a laptop Sony VAIO VGN VGN NW 240 F and I tried every possible way for solution and unfortunately it doesnt worked. I even reinstalled my windows again TWICE, but no luck. I downloaded drivers from sony website, I updated DirectX but nothing. whenever Im opening up skype and clicking on the video, black screen shows up which says : can't start video. try closing other programs that might be using you webcam . I have installed 3 or 4 programs so far and its impossible that some of them might use my webcam. Please if someone experienced the same problem let me know how to fix it, I would really appreciate that. Oh and just for the records i have Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit)

I have a fear of social situations. How do I act more outgoing?

I want to be outgoing so badly you don't even understand. I am not exactly shy when I'm talking to someone one-on-one, I'll have a good conversation with them and usually talk a lot. But when it comes to being in a small group of people around 5-10, or a classroom, and anything larger, I literally have a fear of these kind of social situations. I can't talk to more than three or four people at a time, otherwise I get so freaked out and act shy and quiet. I'm paranoid that nobody will like me. I also feel like I don't fit in with anybody and everyone is so outgoing in these groups of people and so fun and exciting and they like to party and they do fun stuff. I have never been to a party before (like the "big" ones), I've never had a sip of alcohol before, I've never had a boyfriend and I've never done anything illegal or interesting that these people have done that people seem to like to talk about. Its not like I want to be a drunk sex-obsessed crime breaking partier or anything, but I want to feel like I can understand what everyone else thinks is interesting and I just want to fit in and for once have something interesting to add to a group conversation instead of sitting and listening to everybody's fun life while I sit at home and twiddle my thumbs, wishing I could make friends so easily (I have a terribly hard time making friends) and feel like I actually belong in this college setting. So I digress, but seriously, what can I do to be more outgoing and actually talk to people? I'm sick of my phobia of people and I hate myself because I'm this way. I have been playing for about 3 years and Im looking at getting a new bass guitar I have about �150 to spend and i want your advice. If you want a really good Marshall at an even cheaper price than the Microstack I recommend the Marshall MG4 Series MG30FX 30W. It will have a much more full sound than the little 15 watter, and it's a 100 bucks cheaper. A buddy of mine has the 30 watt and it sounds awesome.

Guitar Feedback? EMG Active 81/85?

My guitar has a costant feedback, especially on distortion. It's noticable on clean, but it's faded. When I put it on distortion it's really really loud and annoying. I know it's not in the wiring because a tech set most of it up for me and fixed all of it. No matter what I do the feedback is there. It only goes away if I move around in certain parts of the room, or face it directly up or down. I've tried it on multiple different amps/cables. Still there. I've adjusted the pickup height accordingly, still there. I've made sure there's no electrical interference. It also goes away if I lower the volume on the guitar, but the tone sounds very bad when i do that. Same with the tone knobs. I'm running it through a Peavey Vypyr 30w, and a Boss DS-2 Distortion. The feedback is still there when connecting the guitar directly to the amp. Would this have anything to do with the ground wire? I know they're not supposed to be used, but its just laying in the cavity. I tried taping up the end of it with electrical tape, but nothing changed. I've heard that connecting the ground takes away feedback but creates a shock hazard. My pre gain is at 1 o' clock. Same with my Post Gain. This feedback is extremely annoying and gives me migraines. Anyone know what my problem may be? I can't find an answer anywhere.

My opinion: TOTAL RIP OFF! They came up with the idea for iPad 2 before they even launched the first iPad. The brains behind the Apple comapny are not stupid ones. Help with newbie guitar settings?

I recently got a guitar for my birthday. B.C Rich Warlock with tremolo bar. I had taken it to Guitar Center and got the cords switched (I'm a lefty and I bought it pawned for a rather fair price) So anyways, the guy decided that since the guitar shape was the kind of shape you would expect a guitar used for metal was, he would tune it to Drop D and replaced the old strings to skinny top and heavy bottom. My parents also bought me a Peavey Rage 158 on the side and it doesn't have much options. Pre-gain, Post-gain, equalizer with Low Medium and High knobs and two flip things (one being Clean/Lead and the other being Modern Vintage) any pointers? Am I cursed to live with a bad setup for beginning guitar?

A couple of days ago I accidentally sliced a little part of my thumb. I put a band-aid and neosporin on it and I change it out every day. A little part of my skin (where I cut it) is still half hanging on to my wound. It's still not attaching to my wound. I was playing through my Guitar Amp and I ripped out the headphone wire can some help? details below?

I was playing my guitar through my Peavey Vypyr 30 Watter and too hear it through my headphones i Cranked it up to 13/13 and I tripped and fell over and i ripped it out at like 3am and it let out a giant Roar of feedback, have i permanantly damaged the amp in anyway? Help would be appreciated.

Noise in audio recordings?

I am recording from a Shure SM58 into a Peavey PV6 USB connected to my Mac. There is a static noise in the recording because I have to turn the gain up so much to hear the microphone. It is however connected via an XLR to 1/4 inch, if I got an XLR to XLR cable would I have to turn the gain up so much? Thanks, Oliver

How to finish killing a wart?

I had a wart on my thumb and I've been using Compound W and cutting the dead skin off as it dies. But now I'm down to the bottom of the wart and the Compound W doesn't seem to be working. If there's infection then you'll get redness and heat around the area and it will be painful however given you've got that much swelling it really needs to be looked at. Animal mouths are not the cleanest things around and any bites which break the skin need to be well flushed right away, given yours was left so long it does need to be looked at.

If I move files around often, will it cause me to need to defragment my drive more often?

if you move files around alot it can leave fragments behind, eventually there will be so many fragments the you need to fragment your computer, i would recommend installing Diskeeper (free edition would do the job) and setting up a monthly defrag (even if your system is not in a state where it needs fragmenting its still a good idea to keep it clean).

Behringer PA speakers not playing correctly?

i think they are the E series. For some reason the Horn is not playing therefore everything sounds muffled. Do i have somthing hooked up wrong? Add or remove guitar pickups winding? Peavey Gen Exp?

I wanted to know can I add more windings to the current pickups or remove some of the windings to get a different sound? I just bought a peavey gen exp triple single and I really don't like the sound of the pickups. Thought it would sound like my 94' strat but it doesn't. My nieces squire sounds more like my strat then the peavey. My 84' Aria RS Series has more strat sound then the peavey but a little less then my strat. I would really like a different strat sound but not exact like my current strat. Or should I just buy another set of pickups.

Are tube amps the best sounding?

i think tubes are only popular because they're vintage. it's not worth it in my opinion, they're harder to maintain than a solid state amp and the sound difference is trivial at best (it's 'warmer' meaning less high-end, if that's the sound you're after)

How much is my Peavey milestone bxp bass guitar worth?

I have a peavey milestone bxp bass guitar and I'm selling it along with the amp which is an ultrabass bt108. Both are pretty much brand new, I've played the bass a couple times and then i just lost interest in it. Guitar amp for metalcore/post-hardcore type music?

Orange amps are really good, but can be a bit pricey. I work in a music store and some of the Roland Cube's are really good for home use, such as the Roland Cubes 80XL. We also have never had any problems with Marshall amps, though they can be really sensitive (check out the MG102FX). Also the Vox AC15 custom is incredible and has great sound, also the vox AC4TV has amazing sound and we've never had complaints about it. Don't cheap out and go for a fender amp, they have terrible sound for the most part.

I have a fear of social situations. How do I act more outgoing?

I want to be outgoing so badly you don't even understand. I am not exactly shy when I'm talking to someone one-on-one, I'll have a good conversation with them and usually talk a lot. But when it comes to being in a small group of people around 5-10, or a classroom, and anything larger, I literally have a fear of these kind of social situations. I can't talk to more than three or four people at a time, otherwise I get so freaked out and act shy and quiet. I'm paranoid that nobody will like me. I also feel like I don't fit in with anybody and everyone is so outgoing in these groups of people and so fun and exciting and they like to party and they do fun stuff. I have never been to a party before (like the "big" ones), I've never had a sip of alcohol before, I've never had a boyfriend and I've never done anything illegal or interesting that these people have done that people seem to like to talk about. Its not like I want to be a drunk sex-obsessed crime breaking partier or anything, but I want to feel like I can understand what everyone else thinks is interesting and I just want to fit in and for once have something interesting to add to a group conversation instead of sitting and listening to everybody's fun life while I sit at home and twiddle my thumbs, wishing I could make friends so easily (I have a terribly hard time making friends) and feel like I actually belong in this college setting. So I digress, but seriously, what can I do to be more outgoing and actually talk to people? I'm sick of my phobia of people and I hate myself because I'm this way. I used to play for 10 hours a day majority of the time now i play for 2 or 3 at a time but i still have stifness and shaking fingers. Sometimes it goes numb and hurts around my thumb.

What's wrong with my bones?

For several months my thumb would hurt for a couple days every month or so. It felt like it was sprained or broken. It would go away... and come back a couple weeks or months later. My thumbs don't hurt much anymore, but now it's my wrists. Both of them have been hurting but not always at the same time. It also feels like they're sprained, but sometimes its less pain than usual. A couple days ago my ankle started to feel this way, but didn't hurt too bad. And my knee, but just for a day or so. Could it be that I need more calcium? I have no clue. Thanks.

if your looking for blues tone try to get a tube amp My suggestion is one of the crate V series amps I got a 33V for 225$ it is very comparable to a Marshall Fender amps are more known for their clean tone. Peaveys are just the road warriors of rock more crunch than anything else. You can get some off brand vintage tube amps for cheap money try a Univox 1011 they go for around 300$ good luck

Stratocaster or Les Paul?

it's apples and oranges really. they're both quality guitars, i have played both and enjoyed them. i prefer the strat myself for varying reasons, but it all boils down to personal preference. there is no "better" guitar. try them both out at a guitar shop and see which one feels right for you.

Is A Marshall MG100HDFX Head A Good Combo With A Peavey 212?

I like the Marshall tube heads much better but if you like the sound of the MG then the Peavey cab would sound fine with it. It's not quite on par with a Marshall cab but then neither is the price.

Help with choosing a bass guitar?

I would like a new bass guitar and i have seen a few but im not sure which make is best. The makes i have seen are westfield, epiphone and shine. I am deciding between a SG style bass copy or a Paul McCartney violin bass copy. Which make and model would you suggest and why?
