Add or remove guitar pickups winding? Peavey Gen Exp?

I wanted to know can I add more windings to the current pickups or remove some of the windings to get a different sound? I just bought a peavey gen exp triple single and I really don't like the sound of the pickups. Thought it would sound like my 94' strat but it doesn't. My nieces squire sounds more like my strat then the peavey. My 84' Aria RS Series has more strat sound then the peavey but a little less then my strat. I would really like a different strat sound but not exact like my current strat. Or should I just buy another set of pickups.
